Mayhem with Maeva

After a rave review of my tour guide ability I was referred by a friend to another traveller who loves food as much as me!

So first stop the The Meatball Shop on the corner of Allen St & Stanton, Lower East Side.
It's pretty self explanatory meat balls are their deal and they do them really well.

The sunlight and flower reminded me of home.

The menu is innovative, you use a black marker to select which meatball, sauce, cheese, sides, which way you want it served - slider, heroe, smash or everything but the kitchen sink.

I love the communal dining, bumping elbows with a stranger whilst having a foodgasm its the way dining should be it also gives a great homely feel.

Maeva, sliders and a heroe

I ordered pork balls & spicy sauce heroe and a buffalo chicken & blue cheese slider
Divine! melt in your mouth, beautiful soft bread and I loved the arugula (rocket) with shaves of apple and a light citrus excellent complement.

The next amazing part about the simple and awesome restaurant you can make your own ice cream sandwich!
I'm talking you can pick a different cookie for the top and the bottom and the ice cream flavour its just ingenious in my eyes.

Ginger snap cookie
Vanilla ice cream
Brownie cookie

You can buy a recipe book and they also give you a sample recipe when you pay.

Before heading out we needed to stop by the liquor store.
So we're wandering through times square near Broadway and a show was letting out and people were queuing at the backdoor so we checked it out and who should come out but Alan Rickman aka Snape.
Contrary to the pictures Alan was exactly like Snape when I asked to take a picture he replied in that drawn out tone "Quiiickly" it was awesome! I pretty much felt like Harry himself.

and Jerry O'Connell was a doll as expected he was asking where we're from, offering each of us a photo, I've loved him since Sliders and I will continue to love him.

McGee's is the pub that How I Met Your Mother based McLaren's on.
You can also watch HIMYM there every Monday.

Legit cop car.
Aussie reference: So Hamish & Andy basically destroyed a current mode of transportation for NY police  officers hahaha.

To conclude our evening we went to a random bar on the Lower East Side where an extremely drunk Italian man kept asking if we wanted to go for a walk until he was kicked out for being too drunk and as an apology we got a free glass of wine from our waiter, winning!

Hope you enjoyed the mayhem as much as I did Maeva.

Sticky Rice & the Backroom

My cousin Zoe and I were hungry and on our way out then we stumbled upon Sticky Rice a delicious Thai restaurant located on the corner of Broome & Orchard on the Lower East Side. Lovely funky decor and a killer bar.

Margarita Sampler
Thai Hibiscus
Blood Orange
Melon

Vegetarian dumplings

Vegetarian noodles

The Back Room with no website I give you a link to an article about the sneaky 1920s speakeasy club with little white gate and metal sign eluding to whats goes on through the corridors to the bar. Drinks in teacups and beer in brown paper bags to hide the alcohol from the po po *wink wink* ah to get a little history experience on a night out there ain't nothing better. I kid you not about the tunnels I thought we were sneaking out of prison Shawshank Redemption style.

Norfolk & Delancey st
Lower East Side
Shhhhh...

Me, the cousins and our teacups of whiskey sours!

Good times.

East Village

Today's tour the East Village, located beneath Fourth Ave and East 14th Street. Known for it's alternative, punk rock & grunge image for the majority of four decades now its more of a nostalgic fantasy. A great collection of boutiques, bars & restaurants. This neighbourhood was a cultural inspiration for the musical Rent and Led Zepellin's Physical Graffiti album cover. For a good part of the 1970s this was the NY drug headquarters.

The first stop was the store below which use to be CBGB a diamond amongst the rough and tumblers kind of night club with such performers as the Ramones, Patti Smith & Lou Reed.

Closed in 2006 due the pike in rent prices. Now known as John Varvatos boutique selling rock inspired leather jackets at prices to cover the rent!

I just love the name of this restaurant.

Cooper Union
In 1860 this was the place where Abraham Lincoln shocked a cynical New York crowd with an anti slavery speech which ensured his candidacy.
The same place years later in 2004 AIDS activist Larry Kramer did the same thing with his speech "The Tragedy of Today's Gays"

The infamous strip continuing down East Astor Place turns into St Marks Place full of tattoo parlours cheap eateries and novelty punk rock collectibles.

Trash & Vaudeville
Landmark goth & punk shop.

Selling the famous "New York F*ckin City" shirts

It just happened to be incorporated into my tour, I finally found heaven on earth aka Curry Row!
Second Ave & 6th St.

Believe it!

AMAZING!

The site of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti cover and where the stones filmed 'Waiting on a Friend' in 1981.

Cause you can't have one without the other.

Tompkins Square Park
The birth of the drag queen summer festival 'Wigstock'
Jimi Hendrix played here in the 1960s.

Madonna's first apartment in NY.

My favourite colour in a rose!

Hell's Angel Motorcycle Club
First Ave & 3rd St
makes sense it would be located in this neighbourhood.
