The itch

It was bound to happen I got the 4 month itch and homesickness hit me. Twinny and I decided it's not so much that you want to go home you just wanna swing by and say heeeey then take off again but alas until I get my own private jet plane that ain't gonna happen so luckily a very dear friend by the name of Warren sent me a lil piece of home.

Me so happy!

Thank you Warren!

Chinatown!

This week 9-18 March is Chinatown restaurant week so naturally I had to hit it up.

Vietnamese French iced coffee

It's a DIY mission but it is well worth it. The coffee shot is individually brewed in a metal French drip filtered over condensed milk then you just pour it over the ice. YUM!

65 Bayard Street near Columbus Park

Like I said sweet and salty is my fave! This flavour was awesome with the cone it tasted a bit like peanut butter

Then we chilled in Columbus Park, a delightful start to a beautiful spring

Bottomless Brunch!

Finally I got to experience an NY bottomless brunch loose translation unlimited drinks whilst having breakfast, simply beautiful. We headed to Giovanni's Brooklyn Eats on the corner of 8th Ave and Prospect Ave Brooklyn.

Hair of the Dog Mimosas!

Beautiful day

For $16.95 you get an appetizer, entree and an UNLIMITED choice of Bloody Mary's or Mimosas!

We started with a refreshing Roasted beets, walnut & goat cheese salad.
I love fresh beets in a salad with cheese and the nuts give a great crunchy texture to the softer ingredients.

Poached eggs "Salmone"

Smoked Salmon, toasted bread, goat cheese, hollandaise, potato wedges
This hit the nail on the head for me I loooove smoked salmon and hollandaise.

My cousin enjoyed "Double egg-plant"
Baked eggplant, parmesan topped with a fried egg

It was very similar to eggplant parmigiana.
Delicious!

Needless to say she was extremely satisifed!

Brunch is available at most restaurants on weekends it is definitely a must do activity in NYC Hot Tip: try and avoid the places with time limits ;-)

First Saturday at Brooklyn Museum

For the first weekend of Spring we headed out to one of the biggest art museums in the country the Brooklyn Museum (Located on Eastern Parkway & Washington Ave) for Target First Saturdays. On this occasion the museum has various events held throughout their exhibits starting from the early evening. We attended the dance party of course!

Once the d-floor was finished we headed outside and to our delight some lovely gentleman setup their giant telescope offering free viewings of the moon!

This is what it looked like through the lens

A great evening indeed.

Leap Day with Lupe

Tonight I ventured to the Highline Ballroom on 16th Street between 9th & 10th Ave in Chelsea. It is an awesome venue, nice and intimate. The bottom floor has a large d-floor and the top balcony has tables and chairs so you can dine whilst you enjoy the acts.

I finally got to see one of my favourite hip-hop artists Lupe Fiasco! He was doing a collaboration performance with Robert Glasper a sensational jazz pianist "Glasper has long kept one foot planted firmly in jazz and the other in hip-hop." needless to say it was amazing!

Here they are performing on the Letterman show just hours earlier.

"Always Shine" Robert Glasper Experiment featuring Lupe Fiasco & Bilal

An excellent way to spend a leap day.

Emporio

Tonight the lovely Ksusha took me to her favourite Italian restaurant
231 Mott Street
Btwn Prince & Spring Street, Nolita

Prosciutto & arugola buffalo mozzarella, Grana Padano, D.O.P

This pizza is my new favourite the dough was unlike anything I have ever tasted before it tasted like a crepe but doughy, blew my mind.

Insalata di Funghi foraged wild mushrooms, D.O.P. buffalo mozzarella, crispy artichokes, lemon vinaigrette

This salad is somewhat of an acquired taste there are three textures the crispy artichoke, cold mushrooms and the chewy mozzarella.

Organic cucumber vodka, lemon, st. germain elderflower liqueur,
Looks like lemonade wrong! this was a deliciously refreshing cocktail I should know I had two of them, excellent flavour too easy to drink.

The special
Taglierini hand made pasta, crab, mushrooms
There is nothing more divine in this world then freshly made pasta you can see, taste and feel the difference when you eat it divine

Nutella & Vanilla Ricotta Piadina
Baked in the pizza oven
This bad boy rocked my world. As we walked in I saw jars of Nutella near the pizza oven I thought to myself decorative or most popular dessert ordered on the menu, it was of course the latter which we just had to devour. Amazing combination crunchy dough, soft ricotta, sweet hazelnut chocolate spread, simply beautiful.

Salted caramel ice cream
I saw this bad boy paired with another cake and I asked if I could have it solo the answer was yes! If there is one thing you take away from my blog let it be this I am a sucker for salty & sweet its just how I roll.

I highly recommend this restaurant great value, amazing food, delicious atmosphere I will be featuring this on my tour just a heads up to my next visitor.

Williamsburg

I've been getting to many complaints about people's hunger pains from reading my blog
My Solution: shopping!

Today I ventured to Williamsburg to pick up some delicious second hand clothing!

Buffalo Exchange (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
Corner of Driggs Avenue & 9th Street

Basically consignment stores allow you to drop of your preloved/never loved clothes and they evaluate their worth and give you store credit or cash (I know what your thinking WTF you could be making some sweet mula from clothes you have never even worn!) thats right some purchases still have their original tags. I picked up 8 dresses and some black mary jane platforms all for a whopping $127 AMAZING!

My lucky find, they go with everything

Junk
Just next door full of vintage trinkets, furniture and some clothes.

love love love!

Lunchtime

354 Metropolitan Ave
Btwn Haevemeyer & Roebling Street

Recommended by my Lonely Planet I decided to get some delicious BBQ meat for lunch. With a similar concept to a deli you order your meal by weight and the they slice it up and serve it to you.

It used to be an auto body repair shop

Pulled pork, Black Angus sirloin, Dante's German potato salad, bread rolls

It was very delicious meat however the potato salad let me down as I thought it would be as good as my friend Antoinette's German potato salad, alas it was not.
