En route to Florida we got to cruise through town where I was born Mobile, Alabama!
We only got to stop at the Army/Naval base but it was totally worth it as I got to pick up a Fried Green Tomatoes recipe postcard and a mini Mobile shot glass.
Oh Flo-rida we had some times indeed! we spent a week travelling through this state located at the bottom right tip of the US. It has the components of north, south and middle of America all rolled into one state ergo why we spent so much time there.

Florida fun facts
- One of my favourite orange juice makers
- St Augustine was the first European settlement in North America
- Gatorade was invented here! and named after the University of Florida Gators
- Alligators are the official state reptile
- The phrase "cool as a cucumber" originated here! because on hot day in Florida the pulp of a cucumber is 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding air
- Orlando attracts more visitors than any other amusement park in the nation
- It is a popular retirement destination (learnt that from Jerry Seinfeld's parents)
First stop Tallahassee we didnt get up to much this night because we were recooperating from New Orleans, Bourbon street and long goodbyes...so we had a quiet meal at Applebee's crashed and then in the morning ate our feelings because we were missing half the wolfpack! We found this lil ditty called the Waffle house that met our needs.
Only in America can you get all this for $7.00!
Choc chip waffles!
Departing Tallahassee we headed to the most magical place on earth or so they say... Orlando! we quickly dumped our bags and headed to Disneyworld for the night. Our night pretty much involved eating at almost every food stop and being to large for childrens rides but getting crammed in anyway!
The castle!
Corn dog!
Stacey in front of the castle!
Now I have been to Disneyworld before as a 10 year old and it was magical but there was one thing I never got to do which was chow down on a Turkey leg, I kid you not I have been dreaming about this bad boy for 14 years so much so I remembered where the stall was located in the Magic Kingdom (Frontier Town) Finally I got my giant turkey leg and I felt like Asterix from that comic about vikings it literally made my year except I honestly thought it looked more like a ham leg. The best part was everyone staring at me whilst I ate it, hopefully some kid saw it just like I did when I was little and adds it to their bucket list!
Tea cup ride!
Funnel Cake! its donut batter drizzled into hot oil through a funnel creating true magic. We actually heard a patron complain it was too doughey so naturally we started saying everything we ate was too doughey!
Minnie love!
The fireworks were amazing. The crazy hooligans trying to run me over in their wheelchairs/ motorized wheelchairs were not, seriously do my legs look see through-NO! so that means ramming my ankles from behind will not get you to the exit that 500 bajillion other people are trying to get too so simmer down!
Another fun fact Florida has one of the lowest taxes in America, so naturally I got myself some new threads at the local outlet malls in Orlando... to quote my mother "woman be shoppin"
Then it was time for dinner at Universal Studios NBA City. We had a delightful meal which I accidentally didnt photograph, must have hoovered that one in from all the shopping
but I did manage to get one of dessert...Choc bomb om nom nom
Oranges and gators, pretty much sums up Flo-rida
Then it was time for Miami which I have done a seperate post about because it was too awesome!
After the shenanigans of Miami we relaxed at Cocoa beach and some much needed indian curry! and whoops didn't get any photos but it was a nice beach obviously the ones at home are more magical. Then we headed to NASA!
NASA fun facts
- Apollo 1 burst into flames killing all 3 astronauts
- NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration
- my favourite shot glass is from here reading "I need some space"
- The Apollo mission started in 1961 to get a man on the moon
This is how they ride
Actual spacewalk used in take off
NASA fun fact: they can build rockets that fly to outerspace but you have to use a 90's looking phone to hear a tour... no headphones, riddle me that!
JFK daring to dream
Me and my click
St Augustine
As mentioned above this was the first place the Europeans settled in North America! it was a pretty chilled evening for us in this quaint little town. We decided to breakaway from the group and roam the streets we found a lovely little ice creamery making fresh peanut brittle and the aroma was intoxicating so naturally I walked out with a fat cone in tow.
Then we kept walking down the ye olde path to discover that the town was made up of many ice cream and toffee stores as well as pizza parlours, I guess these are their staple foods and I am A-OK with that.
Then it was dinner time! and we found a delcious Italian restaurant.
Cheese sticks (their really half moons)
oh so cheesy!
Italian soup
Lobster ravioli
Chicken Parmigiana I had been craving!
Then we rolled ourselves home to cruise to our next destination
Goodbye Flo-rida!
